There are many challenges teachers face in educating today’s students. First, parents often feel left out of the child’s educational process. A majority of the time, they are limited to clinical style progress and report cards. Second, teachers sometimes find student engagement with the set curriculum difficult to achieve.
Third, the teachers themselves seem to have little time for personal and professional development. ClassDojo, an educational application, is bringing solutions to these issues and more.
A Vision Turned into Reality
ClassDojo CEO Sam Chaundry and CTO Liam Don met at a weekend gathering for entrepreneurs. As they interacted with each other, a shared concern was revealed. Education, by and large, is changing dramatically but classroom instruction is unable to keep up. They set in their minds to remedy the matter. After settling on a business plan, the two sought financial support.
ClassDojo, initially a $20k startup, became an almost instant hit in the educational community. This is attributed to the fact that the application builds upon the input of thousands of teachers. To this day, teacher input continues to shape the majority of within the application.
A Parental Benefit
Although ClassDojo’s primary focus is the educator, parents enjoy the application as well. The free app allows both teacher and parent to interact by:
- Sharing photos and videos of students and class activity.
- Sending back and forth messages about a respective student.
- Reading any school news of interest.
- Monitoring overall student progress on a daily basis.
The application is fun and interactive. Teachers and parents also enjoy the easy -to -use platform.
Sam and Liam continue to adapt ClassDojo to the ever-changing educational system. Though translated into 35 languages and in 180 or more countries, work continues to expand the application worldwide.
